Health Insurance For Children Reviewed

With the cost of health insurance for children skyrocketing in the country, many people are finding it difficult to pay the monthly premiums. It's bad enough that many parents are unable to get insurance for themselves because of the high cost, but what about their children?

A child's health should not be compromised by treatment limitations arising from a lack of heath insurance for children. While this is a great motherhood statement and a great social ideal, it is true that many kids are facing inadequate medical care due to the fact they do not have health insurance. Health insurance for children has become too expensive for many Americans to purchase on their own. When one or both parents are working at low paying, often minimum wage jobs, there just isn't enough money left for insurance after paying for rent, utilities, food, clothing and transportation.

Health insurance for children is absolutely critical as a social need to ensure that kids have coverage for medical emergencies even if they are healthy today. Although this issue is discussed regularly, the concern about inadequate health insurance for children has to transition to the next stage of action. Many people believe that government legislation is the best approach. Although this approach can be considered, it should not stop the private sector from offering options for parents to secure health insurance for their children.

Health Insurance For Children Offered By Philanthropic Organizations

A well-known philanthropic organization that has helped in covering the health insurance needs of children is the Touch of Grace medical clinic that is based in the Salvation Army headquarters in Kalispell. Touch of Grace is open for four hours, one evening a week. It is staffed by some 90 health care professionals and other volunteers who donate their time and expertise to the clinic. The thirty or so people who are treated each week receive the services free of charge. Most people receive services right at the clinic and some are referred to medical specialists who also provide services free of charge. Unfortunately, these kinds of organizations have little publicity and are left unrecognized for their good work. It is however, important to stress that this kind of program has to meet some minimum requirements before beneficiaries can enjoy its benefits.

Contributing To Charitable Health Insurance For Children Programs

It is worthy to note that many members of the community do often donate money to these charitable organizations to help with their funding. Actually, I think it is heartening to read about health care professionals and other members of the community coming together to address the health needs of less fortunate members of society. I hope that other communities will look at these health insurance for children programs and develop one of their own, if they haven't already done so.
